Magic Camp the Movie Premiering at the Newport Beach Film Festival!

Magic Camp the Movie, a documentary about Tannen's Magic Camp, is premiering at the Newport Beach Film Festival at the end of April.

To escape the pressures of growing up, magic-obsessed kids congregate at the one place they can be themselves. They want to prove their worth on the same stage where magic superstars like David Blaine and David Copperfield once performed. But to get there, they need to learn more than sleight-of-hand and tricks of the trade. They have to find the magic inside.

There's Magic in the Air!

Looking for a unique night of magic and comedy with a touch of music? There's Magic in the Air is coming back to a New York stage for another one-off performance on Saturday, April 21st, at 8pm.

The theater is located at 260 W. 36th St, on the 3rd Floor.

There will be an international line up of stellar magicians, including: Adam Rubin (Chicago), Harrison Greenbaum (NYC) Ali Shelley and Mike Shelley (Miami), Mathieu Bich (Paris) and Peter Mclanachan (Glasgow). Vocals will be provided by the beautiful Molly Ryan.

Tannen's Magic in Time Out: New York

Tannen's was written about in a recent Time Out: New York article about NYC magic shops!

Open since 1925, this Herald Square haunt gets bragging rights for being the city’s oldest magic emporium. Instead of the gaudy lights and neon signage you’d expect from a place known for over-the-top trickery, you’ll encounter a dimly lit shop situated in an unassuming office building. Playing cards ($3–$100), didactic DVD sets ($15–$190) and accessories ($25–$400) abound at Tannen’s, where tricks are performed and sold daily. For $140, staffers will teach budding magicians the F1 Nitro trick, in which a card is made to vanish from its deck and suddenly appear in a wallet. Equally thrilling is the ParaPad ($95)—a pocket-sized notebook that helps its owner read minds. Professional magicians like Dani Daortiz often host lectures ($35) and workshops ($100), while novices frequently snatch up Michael Ammar’s Easy to Master Card Miracles DVD ($35). Notable alums of Tannen’s weeklong summer camp ($1,295), held each year outside Philadelphia, include actor Adrien Brody and master illusionist David Blaine.

Dani Daortiz Rocks NYC!

It's official, Dani Daortiz is one of the greatest card magicians of all time. The material from his lecture and workshop in New York City blew us away. To watch Dani perform is to watch real magic, it is a thing of beauty.

During his lecture Dani spoke about the psychology he uses to perform his effects. He revealed that every gesture he makes and every word he says is rehearsed for maximum misdirection. He explained this school of thinking by analyzing two of his effects Twin Prediction and Imaginary Dice, both are explained in his lecture notes.

Dani's work is absolutely inspiring. If you haven't had a chance you must see his 4 DVD set, Utopia, or his lecture notes, Semi Automatic Card Magic, which are EXCLUSIVELY available at Tannen's!

Piff the Magic Dragon Visits Tannen's!

The magic world's favorite dragon, Piff the Magic Dragon, visited Tannen's this past Sunday!

Our staff had a great time showing him tricks and talking about magic. Piff's fame skyrocketed following his performance on Penn & Teller's: Fool Us on British TV. You can see a clip of his performance here.

Ben and Cassandra's Magical Illusion Show

Tannen's very own Ben Nemzer will be presenting his stage extravaganza, Ben Nemzer and Cassandra's Magical Illusion Show this March. All proceeds from their performance will be donated to the anti-bullying organization, dosomething.org.
