Eric Jones will be providing a sleight-intensive training session covering some of his pet effects and techniques for coin and card conjuring with ranging difficulty. These effects are directly out of his working repertoire and will provide hands on training to all who attend.

Some of the items in the workshop will include:
• SpeedFly: A Visual Coins Across routine (3 Fly) that uses only 3 coins. NO gimmicks, gaffs or extra coins. Features Eric's Impromptu Rattle Gimmick, a utility sleight that you will be able to immediately implement in your own routines.
• Out With Three: A quirky 3 coin production that you'll have to see to believe.
• KKK (Three Klan Vanish): A Vanish of three ungimmicked coins that solves several problems for the serious student of coin magic.
• The Oxy Clean Challenge: A production and vanish sequence that is done under test conditions. The audience is invited to completely SURROUND the seated performer and be amazed as he produces and COMPLETELY vanishes three coins. A thing of beauty.
• El Cambio Nada: A chest level color change of a card that will floor both laymen and magician alike.
• The Art of Using The Shoulder As A Servante: An old ruse brought into the 21st Century with new techniques and applications. Turn your spectator into an impromptu holdout.

Patrick Redford Lecture: Report

Despite the miserable snowy weather there was a good turnout for the Patrick Redford. Those who braved the weather were not disappointed by the quality of lecture. He opened the lecture with an intriguing bill divination. The highlight of the lecture was the Prevarication piece. The routine is based on two spectators concealing a hidden object amongst one of them. One spectator lies and one tells the truth. By asking one question Mr. Redford is able to locate the hidden object. A DVD on this routine produced by Joshua Jay will soon be released in a few months.

The other routine worthy of mention was Glemme. It’s a clever routine designed to cause momentary amnesia in an onstage spectator. All of the pieces presented by Patrick were products of long hours of hard work and research. He could easily gone into tiny details of the routines. Redford closed the lecture with a performance piece involving a prediction in a box.

Dan & Dave Buck and Chad Nelson Lecture: Report

At Tannen's Magic we had the opportunity to host Dan & Dave Buck and Chad Nelson for a lecture. We had a full house for the sold-out lecture and the lecturers did not disappoint. Using a novel approach the lecture did not begin with any tricks or methods.

The lecture began with finger exercises and tips on breaking in a new deck. Then the lecture shifted into sleigh-of-hand techniques and flourishes. The one of highlights of the lecture was Chad Nelson explaining his revolutionary Clip Shift technique from his Surfaced DVD. The move had been generating some buzz on the Internet and it was great to see the sleight done well live in person. His effect ‘Criterion’ is a sublime visual version of Roy Walton’s Collectors plot.

The Buck twins also performed various effects and flourishes from their The Trilogy and The System DVDs . The lecture was well organized with the presenters reviewing the material during the lecture on a laptop just prior to the actual presentations. The material was well taught. And it was clearly evident that these young men knew not only the material but the history as well.

Will Houstoun Lecture: Report

Will Houston from England presented an entertaining lecture focused mainly using cards and coins. He presented some interesting routines using a coin gimmick or two. Will presented a beautiful coin routine utilizing a lit candle very reminiscent of David Roth’s signature routines that was sublime.

Though most of his items used cards or coins, he did present one routine using something everyone has their right pinky. He bent his right little finger 90 degrees to the right then 90 degrees to the left. Then proceeded to explain how to perform it.

He concluded the lecture with a version of Chink a Chink. In conclusion Will Houstoun showed he was indeed worthy of all the accolades he has earned at such a young age.

Marc Oberon Lecture: Report

Marc Oberon from Nottingham, England opened the lecture by performing his award winning contest act done to music. He did not explain the act completely but he did explain some interesting sleeving techniques used during the act. Next Marc went into a demonstration of the Master Deck. With the Master Deck he was able to instantly produce any card called for. He concluded the Master Deck session with ‘Any Card at Any Number’.

The second half of the lecture had more emphasis on mentalism. He began with an interesting chair prediction with an explanation of the subtleties that make it pretty sure-fire. Marc also gave a quick demonstration of two of his marketed effects Bang On and Oddball.

Justin Miller Lecture: Report

On February 28th Justin Miller joined us at Tannen’s Magic from Ohio to lecture for us that evening. Justin performed several routines from his professional repertoire. The first half of the lecture focused on close-up items using cards and coins. An outstanding piece was Miller’s Silver Dream, which is a coin sequence vanishing and producing three coins. The second half of the lecture focused on invisible thread work. It was a treat to watch Justin perform and explain the Haunted Pack utilizing loops as a locomotive force. The evening was capped off with a demonstration and discussion of “The Cloak” hook-up. It was great to see in attendance that evening several Tannen’s Magic Camp Campers: Tatanka T., Colin Z., Alex B., and Spencer P. and Dan W. If you missed that lecture don’t fret we have a pair of gents from the UK forthcoming; Marc Oberon on March 13th and Will Houstoun on April 30th.

J.J. Abrams: The Mystery Box
