Myron the Magnificent & the Lovely Vera Visit!

Myron the Magnificent and the Lovely Vera stopped by Tannen’s to pick up supplies for their show Myronic! which starts on August 11th as part of The New York International Fringe Festival.

Myron and Vera perform a wide range of amazing magic drawn from the repertoire of Myron’s grandfather, the legendary Mervyn the Magnificent (Vaudeville’s Yiddish Man of Magic) and his father, Marvin the Magnificent. The duo recently returned from Las Vegas after an unfortunate incident with their Flaming-Double-Sword-Vivisection.

“We’ve been performing that trick for decades,” said Myron. “Then you singe one audience member and you’re out of a theatre.” 

Myronic! will be appearing at the Players Theatre for five performances during the NYC Fringe Festival. Saturday, August 11, 7:45 p.m.; Sunday, August 12, 5 p.m.; Wednesday, August 15, 9:30 p.m.; Tuesday, August 21, 7 p.m.; Sunday, August 26, noon. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.

“The Fringe gives us the chance to expose our show to a whole new audience,” said Myron. “I wish we weren’t always on the fringe,” said Vera. “Just once I’d like to be in the middle of something.”

J. J. Abrams stops by Tannen's in NYC

J. J. Abrams is the creator of some of our greatest contemporary films and television shows including the hit show Lost and films Star Trek and Super 8. Even with so much success, he'll be the first to tell you that his creative inspiration began with the Tannen's Mystery Boxes!

Last week, J. J. stopped by Tannen's to pay a visit to the place where his creative wheels began turning. He's a big fan of magic and he had a great time watching the Tannen's demonstrators perform. J. J. was specifically interested in sleight-of-hand based card work, and he left with both Utopia by Dani Daortiz and the Essential Dai Vernon, perfect items for the serious card student.

The next time J. J. visits we're sure that he'll have a lot more tricks up his sleeve!

Max Maven kicks off Thinking in Person

Tannen's was thrilled to be part of Max Maven's opening for his off-Broadway mentalism show, Thinking in Person, which premiered last night to a sold-out crowd!

Producers say the show "sets out to take the audience on a journey to explore some of the mysteries of the human mind and aims to challenge our assumptions of what we think we know with the mystery of what we can't know. It's more than a ruse to amaze with trickery; it's a magic act woven into slivers of metaphysics."
  
Tannen's President and Owner, Adam Blumenthal, contributed to the production as an associate lighting designer working with Jules Fisher, the legendary Broadway designer and life-long magic fan. The show is directed by Sandy Marshall, son of the great Jay Marshall and owner of Magic Inc. in Chicago. 

Tannen's is very excited to bring Max in to lecture for NYC magicians and mentalists in two weeks on Monday, June 25th. Tickets are still available for Max's lecture here!

Mathieu Bich from Penn & Teller's Fool Us visits Tannen's

Mathieu Bich totally floored Penn & Teller on their hit UK based television show, Fool Us. How did he fool the greatest magic tandem around? Well, Mathieu shared with them the very trick that won him the Invention Award at FISM in 2006, Spreadwave 2.0.

Mathieu is one of the the most creative magicians in the world today. Along with the success of Spreadwave, his other published effects like Newsletter Tricks and Back Twist have been very well received. It was absolutely great to have him lecture for our NYC customers last month!

Max Maven at Tannen's!

The ever astounding Max Maven stopped by Tannen's today and took a picture with our senior demonstrator David Ferst! Along with sharing some great stories about visiting Tannen's when he was younger he said:

"Whenever I need to stock up on supplies, I come right here to Tannen's."

Great to hear that Max is a satisfied Tannen's customer!

He's currently getting ready for his NYC off-broadway show, Max Maven: Thinking in Person, which will be premiering on Tuesday, June 12th at 7:00PM at the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex.
